Earth
The ‘Low Tide’ exhibition definitely started this ball rolling. When I came back into the studio after the show, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to head next. A friend inspired my thinking by suggesting I work with the 4 elements of nature; Earth, Water, Air and Fire, which are a constant source of inspiration when living by the ocean.
I’m not sure what my fascination with rocks has been, but it has always been there! I’ve collected them; I’ve gazed at them; I’ve photographed them and now I paint them. I’ve just looked up the symbolism of ‘rock’ and it says, that they are the ultimate embodiment of permanence, stability and reliability. That works for me!
5 years ago, my husband and I moved to apartment living at Palm Beach, on the Gold Coast and we are so incredibly lucky to live very close to the Currumbin Alley Rock, our local point break. I get to admire that incredible piece of nature daily, and never tire of it. You will find it featured in many of my works. We also have Burleigh Point, with its gorgeous rock pools; Kirra Point, Greenmount and Snapper Rocks! I’m in heaven and loving it!!
